Analyzing Housing Patterns in Auburn, NY

Project Summary

In April 2013, The Fair Housing Council of Central NY (FHCCNY) requested the help of Syracuse Community Geography to analyze and map census data to further their cause. Based in Syracuse, NY, FHCCNY promotes equal housing opportunity by enforcing laws against discrimination and mortgage-lending abuses. They requested that we map the racial makeup, household type and housing tenure at the census block level in Auburn, NY in order to document possible patterns of racial/ethnic segregation in the city. Using Census data, we created maps that show race and housing trends of Auburn in the years 2000 and 2010, which are being used to determine if unfair practices have been or are being used in the area.
