Alexa Neely

I am a senior Policy Studies and Citizenship & Civic Engagement major with a minor in Food Studies. I am passionate about understanding foodways and learning about barriers to food access. In the Spring of 2021, I conducted my Civic Engagement Research Seminar in Food Access for Refugees and New Americans. In the Fall of 2021, I worked with the Community Geography department on the Needs and Assets Among Refugee Communities in the Greater Syracuse Area research project. As I continue my Community Geography internship this Spring, I hope to improve my skills in project implementation, stakeholder communication, and become more knowledgeable about food access for New Americans in Syracuse. In the future, I am interested in working in a community organizing setting involving food access or supporting urban farming projects and alternative food acquisition strategies.
