An Exploration of the Northeast Organic Farming Association’s Certified Operations in New York State

Project Summary

During the winter of 2014, the Syracuse Community Geography Program partnered with the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York (NOFA-NY) to create a series of maps that visualize the spatial distribution and density of their certified organic farms and processors in New York State. NOFA-NY is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to local food production and sustainable farming, and their subsidiary NOFA-NY Certified Organic, LLC, certifies the majority of organic operations in New York. Project maps examine the distribution of these certified organic farms and processors in relation to their operation type and relative size, as well as the aggregate certified organic acreage for each county.
