Census Workshop

Project Summary

In 2012, Syracuse Community Geography began offering workshops to representatives of community-based organizations to help them better utilize U.S. Census Bureau data. Recent changes to the decennial census and the emergence of the American Community Survey have left some people confused as to how to access important local demographic data. Many organizations rely on census data to understand the dynamics of the local community in order to design appropriate programs. Further, most grant-making organizations require applicants to include census statistics in grant proposals. The 3-hour workshop designed by SCG helps workshop participants find and interpret census data. The workshops use local examples and are hands-on. Participants learn to navigate American Factfinder to find data appropriate to their organization. Workshops for groups up to 20 are available upon request.
