I joined Syracuse Community Geography in January 2014. Unlike many other SCG interns, I didn’t come from a geography background — unless winning the National Geographic Bee at my elementary school counts for something. Instead, I joined the team as a social media and public relations intern responsible for launching SCG’s social presence.
SCG afforded me the opportunity to do what I love: connecting with individuals and organizations who provide meaningful services to the community. As a lifelong Upstate New York resident, I can understand and sympathize with many of the issues Syracuse residents face. I’ve since moved out of the Syracuse area, but I’ve continued to watch SCG help solve those issues and grow as an integral member of the Central New York community.
I graduated from Syracuse University in May 2014 and went on to do freelance work in Syracuse and Buffalo, N.Y., as well as an internship for USA Today. I’m currently working as the social engagement manager for the Pittsburgh Business Times in Pittsburgh, PA.
