On November 29th, TomTom announced a partnership with the United Nations Human Settlements program, which will use collected GPS data to help plan urban environments to avoid traffic congestion. The data will also be used to help determine where to place basic services and improve overall mobility in growing areas. See some more details on the partnership and what the data will be used for in this press release

TomTom also recently released its global traffic rankings, which detail traffic patterns in major cities across the world. For those interested, here is a link to the reports.
